Take care of your mousse
Use
The M2R mousse is built for off-road use only. It is not recommended on tarmac or public roads, since heat and constant friction shorten its life considerably. How long a mousse lasts depends on use, weather, maintenance quality and the state of the tyre.
Storage
Store the mousse somewhere cool and dry, below 30 °C, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It also helps to keep the bike on its stand while stored, so the wheels do not carry the bike's weight and the mousse does not deform from resting on the same point.
Lubrication
After periods without use, re-grease the mousse with the grease supplied before fitting it again. Proper lubrication reduces internal friction and extends the mousse's life.
Rim locks
Always fit the rim locks recommended for each hardness: 2 for Bubble Gum (extreme use, prevents the tyre unseating) and 1 for Spongy, Steady and Rock Like.
Signs it needs replacing
A mousse does not fail suddenly like a puncture, so it is worth checking before any important ride. Replace it if you notice:
- Permanent deformation: sunken or flattened areas that do not spring back once the wheel is removed.
- Cracks or loose foam chunks on the surface or sides.
- Uneven firmness: softer patches than others when pressing the tyre by hand, a sign of uneven wear.
- Vibration or instability in corners or at speed that you did not notice before, with tyre and air pressure ruled out.
- Burnt rubber smell or discolouration, typical of overheating from extended road use.
- Many seasons without changing it: the foam degrades over time even with little use, so check it every season regardless.
If in doubt, write to us with photos and we will tell you if it is good for another season or needs replacing.
